 Welcome to Southland in cyberspace!
In 1983 a new kind of church was born in Steinbach – Southland Community Church. The fifty people of this church desired to develop fully devoted followers of Christ through an alternative church experience. These early pioneers strove for cultural relevancy as they experimented with new ideas. Though they encountered challenges along the way, their resolve remained firm.
1996 marked a watershed year for the church. That year the church began to take seriously two ingredients for success in life and ministry: an emphasis on prayer and guidance by the Holy Spirit. The results were predictable. Conversions increased, attendances rose sharply, ministries were launched and staff members added.
To accommodate this sustained growth, the church restructured organizationally, allowing it to pass through several growth barriers. Throughout this journey, God continued to expand our understanding of Church.
In 2003 the Holy Spirit revealed to us that we needed to take to heart the words penned by the Apostle Paul to intentionally and systematically equip believers for ministry. We developed an equipping track, complete with Encounter God weekends, courses and the Leadership Cell Network. The goal is to turn every believer into an effective minister to the church, and in the marketplace. Though this new emphasis is in its infancy, we are already experiencing the fruit of obedience!
